I will also leave it in the laptop because upon opening the laptop, I did not readily see it, only the large HDD. So to summarize I am just going to leave disk 1 configured as it is since I don't believe it hurts anything to have it that way.

I don't believe the SSD that was previously configured from the factory by Acer was ever doing anything, I believe it was there in the event that one wanted to use it because, if one needed to install the OS on it before using it then having it preconfigured seems useless since the screen shot that I showed does not show it to have an OS on it. Because it seems that I would need to install the OS and potentially a new BIOS, I believe I am going to just connect the new SSD and see how it works. Which makes sense if you are trying to quickly boot from the small SSD. In the link that I posted there are instructions for setting up a hibernate partition so I created the 4.0GB partition, using diskpart.exe but the instructions prior to that say install the operating system on the SSD. No, I was using a guide that I thought was the same link as the one that you had listed. The drive was detected and showed in Windows. Holding in this position, I connected the data cable, opened the Device Manager and performed a Scan for HW changes. I was trying to setup intel rapid start via this linkīecause in the services console there is an intel service for rapid start. The HDD started spinning without clicking. If you start the Intel Rapid Storage program can you do the setup as shown in the guide? What are you trying to change in BIOS, the mode from AHCI to RAID? Summing up, the only way you will get that second image is to use the Intel Rapid Storage program.Ĭan you do the steps listed in the intel guide without going into Advanced Options? I don't see anything regarding Advanced Options in the intel guide. It's basically the same as the intel guide with some additional info on repairing. This is a Dell guide but is shows the steps on setting up Smart Response using the Rapid Storage Technology Manager. After the disk is initialized right click the unallocated space and select create simple volume. If you are only interested in using it as a data disk then I would partition and format it using a Gparted Live CD but first try the following. It's possible your AHCI setting in UEFI also can work with IRST but I wouldn't know why. Per this guide I initially linked to the Intel Rapid Storage Manager creates the hibernation partition.

You can create two separate partitions using Gparted but I have no idea how to list one as a hibernation partition. If you notice there is the hibernation partition and the 14.64GB partition marked primary but you will notice there is no File System shown. Should I let it be, but for how long? or should I disconnect it, but will it affect my data? I'm at a loss, really,īecause it's working normally but it's been days and I might be running out of patience.I am not sure how to duplicate that lower image. Working properly and not 'not responding' or 'hanging') but nothing had changed for 5 days and counting and I'm quite concerned. This is my favorite external drive for making backups since it is reliable, rugged and does not encrypt your data without your permission.

The light in my external HDD is still blinking away and the chkdsk is clickable (both of them After backing up important files, right-click the disk in Windows Explorer and choose PROPERTIES. The problem now is that theĬhkdsk has been running stage 4 for 5 days without interference at all and the progress hadn't changed still 27 of 325360. I also understand that the ETA isn't reliable because stage two had shown the same ETA but it changed overtime. Stuck at stage 4 'looking for bad clusters in user file data' with the The stage 3 has been completed nicely, but now it's For stage two 'examining file name linkage', it took a whole day >24hours to be done and continue to the next stage. I'm aware it takes a long time to repair and I've been waiting patiently.

I haven't been able to backup the data since it won't cooperate with me and kept being not responding, so I decided to run comprehensive chkdsk from admin-cmd. The HDD contains a lot of data and folder and

It does need some repair since it suddenly slowed down one day without any prompting (I suspect it was because it got ejected unsafely). I'm running a chkdsk /f /r /x for my 1tb external HDD.
